18 July 2008

Gday Froggies,

Last Sundays dive with the sharks at Magic Point off Omega2 [our dive boat] was a ripper. The first dive had 4 humpback whales swim past the boat. The divers were treated to good visibility and 7 grey nurse sharks! In fact, on every boat dive the sharks were seen, although 1 group swam past the cave courtesy of some original navigating skills by a certain person! The shore dive was Long Bay, and that is all that needs to be said about it! Our most senior group of divers, lets call them Margaret’s Mob, dived at Bare Island and also saw a free swimming grey nurse shark. Who said they were endangered? The weather was really good for both days due to these persistent westerly winds.

I took my boat out on Monday, and apart from those pesky whales, I saw something I had never seen before. Approximately 700 meters off Marley point, down south, we had a mako shark jump 8 times chasing fish. This was truly an awesome sight! I am not sure that you would enjoy swimming with one……but the experience was good.

The weather this weekend is a little mixed. If you are diving within Botany bay it will be good with no swell. The wind is predicted to blow a little on Sunday from the NW, and it will be stronger the further out you go. So most of the shore dives will be accessible, even sites like Harbord pool. It is still a very diveable weekend. There is space on the deep dive from Omega2 tomorrow and plenty of space on Sunday also.

Our online store is now open at www.frogdive.com.auand you can view or purchase anything form diving gear, technical equipment or spearfishing product.

BOAT SHOW

Thank you to all the volunteers…….we now have enough divers to keep the public entertained over the 5 days. We could not do this without your help and we appreciate you donating your time to help us.

SHARKSKIN

Well the water temperature is certainly dropping. We field questions regularly about how you can improve your comfort in the cooler waters, without buying a drysuit. The answer is Sharkskin! The smooth combination nylon-lycra outer layer is tough and abrasion resistant, capable of withstanding jagged rocks, harsh winds and driving rain alike. The inner membrane is windproof and breathable, allowing perspiration to pass through, while blocking cold water exchange and providing neutral buoyancy.

The light next-to-skin fleece lining is comfortable, warm, quick drying and traps body warmth. This fleece wicks perspiration away from the body, keeping it dry. Sharkskin’s four-way stretch provides a comfortable, non-restrictive fit along with easy donning and doffing. Itch-resistant, non-chafing and offering 30+ SPF-protection, Sharkskin’s anti-bacterial treatment resists the growth of mildew and unpleasant odours and offers an amazingly high level of protection and comfort. It’s little wonder Australian National Slalom Canoe Team wear Adventure Extreme’s Sharkskin vests.

Sharkskin is such a versatile fabric and can be used for diving, kayaking, canoeing, canyoning – in fact just about any outdoor sport where protection and comfort are paramount.

You can add a single garment to assist or a complete warmth system. Your options are socks, hood, hooded vests, long sleeve vests, pants and even a complete undergarment. Both stores have a good selection of Sharkskin products. Pricing can be viewed online in our website store.

SEALIFE CAMERA SYSTEM

We have a new camera system offer from Sealife, click here for more information. A very good buy at $1200.00 and it can be purchased form either Frogdive store.

COCHLEAR IMPLANTS ….. A FROGGIE NEEDS HELP!

Nikki Wickham and Neil Starrett have been involved in fundraising for cochlear implants for some time. They have sent me a request for assistance and I have copied it to this email. If you would like to help, please download the sponsorship form here..... Neil’s letter reads……

Hi Everyone,

Well I talked the talk now I gotta walk the walk. Nikki and I am doing the city to surf this year pushing 2 profoundly disabled kids. These little boys needed cochlear implants years back and the quality of their lives has been wonderfully enhanced as a result of receiving them. These guys are on borrowed time due to other problems they face but they remain 2 very loving and loved little boys.

As a cynical old bastard who is way out of condition, why am I doing this? Bloody good question!

Implants cost about $20k per ear and the government give zip. I want to raise enough for an implant for the next kid whoever that may be.

All the money goes to Cochlear, and is tax deductible and you will get a receipt. Please shake down your family and friends so we can make this a reality.

Thanks Neil and Nikki.
