Frog Dive has been around for over 35 years and our experienced instructors know what works for each student! Our motto is "The more training the better". That’s why our courses are deliberately run over 3 days with a full day in the pool, so you have enough time to build up your skills level and confidence. If at the end of the pool session you are not satisfied, you can do it again free of charge and as many times you need. The same unlimited training offer applies for the Open Water session, re-do the ocean sessions until you and the instructor are happy. The safety of our students and staff is a priority, we don’t take shortcuts and don’t charge extra fees!

How the course works

Knowledge Development

Prior to the in-water sessions, you will need to complete the PADI Online Training, where you will learn about the physics & physiology of diving and how it affects your body. Diving is a fun sport, but there are important rules that keep it safe and enjoyable.

This theory completed online with the PADI eLearning. That means you can do it at your convenience. You won’t have to endure hours of an instructor talking at you or a 3 hour video after a hard day at work when you are half asleep. Diving is Fun! and we want to keep it that way!

In-Water Sessions

The PADI Open Water Diver is completed over 3 days, with one day in the pool and the other two days in the ocean. A general schedule would be:

Day #1: Pool Session – Frog Dive Store (Willoughby)

Jump in our in-store heated training pool and practice step by step all diving skills you will need. Training sessions starts at 8am (unless previously advised) and should finish around 3:30pm, but it depends on the group and that means we could finish earlier or slightly later.

With time to spare and in a controlled environment you can build up your diving skills and confidence prior to getting into open water.

Lunch will be on us! Our Frog Master Chef will cook a delicious BBQ sausage sizzle for your break, so you can keep your energy levels high during the whole training session.

Day #2: Open Water Dives – usually held in Clifton Gardens (Mosman)*

After the pool session, it’s time to put all those skills you have learnt to use. You are going to do 2 dives, with a selection of skills in each one. The best part? There will be plenty of time to go for a real dive and see lots of cool stuff!

You will need to provide transportation to and from the dive site, as well as food and drinks for in between dives. Meet with your instructor at 7:45am at the dive site. The training session at the beach is usually over around 1pm and you will then need to return to the shop to refill tanks and complete some paperwork. Usually the day is done somewhere around 2:30pm at the shop.

Day #3: Open Water Dives – usually held in Shelly Beach (Manly)*

Last training day and you are 2 dives away from becoming a certified diver!

You will notice the massive progress you have made already and just being underwater is much easier and  more comfortable. Go for a dive, enjoy the day out and have fun!

Same as day #2, you will need to provide transportation to and from the dive site, as well as food and drinks for in between dives. Meet with your instructor at 7:45am at the dive site. The training session at the beach is usually over around 1pm, you will then need to return to the shop to wash your gear and finish your paperwork. Usually the day is done somewhere around 3:00pm at the shop.

*Please note that diving is weather dependent! We reserve the right to change dive locations and times to suit to the prevailing weather conditions.

Courses schedules

Courses are usually done over two weekends: Saturday start and finishing on the following weekend Saturday & Sunday (popular choice!); you can also find course that start on Sunday and complete on the following weekend Saturday & Sunday.

During high season and school holidays we also offer Full Time Courses, which are 3 consecutive days, usually done Wednesday to Friday.

For the ones who have a specific schedule and prefer to choose their own dates or would like to have the full attention of the instructor, we have the one-on-one Premium Open Water Diver Course. The course is tailor made for you, choose when and how you want to do it, we will have the instructor available for you.

With only you and the instructor skills are done more efficiently, so this course is done over 2 days:

Day #1 - Pool Session and Open Water Dive 1

Day #2 – Open Water Dives 2, 3 and 4.

If you have your own group of 4 or more and would like to organise your own thing, we can take group bookings and organise the course dates around your schedule.
