Open Water vs Advanced PADI: Which Scuba Course Is Right for You?

Excited to explore the underwater world but not sure which PADI course is right for you?

Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! Whether you’re just getting started with scuba or ready to take your skills further, both the Open Water and Advanced PADI courses offer incredible experiences.

Open Water: Your First Step into Scuba Diving

If you’re new to diving, the PADI Open Water Diver course is the perfect place to begin.

This course teaches you everything you need to know to become a certified diver. Over three days, you’ll learn the basics of scuba gear, how to dive safely, and how to handle yourself underwater.

Once you’re certified, you’ll be able to dive to 18 metres with a dive buddy—and your certification is recognised worldwide!

At Frog Dive, we know that building confidence is key. That’s why you’ll spend your first day practising in our heated training pool before heading to popular dive spots around Sydney. And if you feel like you need more time, no problem—our unlimited pool sessions let you practice as much as you need, free of charge.

This course is perfect if you’re new to diving and want a recognised certification that gives you the freedom to explore dive sites around the world.

Advanced PADI: Unlock New Diving Adventures

Already certified and ready for more? The Advanced PADI Open Water course helps you dive deeper and sharpen your skills.

With five adventure dives, you’ll master advanced techniques like buoyancy control and underwater navigation.

You’ll also complete a deep dive to 30 metres—opening the door to new dive sites—and get hands-on experience with wreck diving at exciting sites around Sydney.

The Advanced course kicks off with a Friday night session at Frog Dive, followed by two days of dives at top local sites, including The Colours Reef and wrecks off Sydney Heads.

This course is perfect if you want to build on your existing skills, explore deeper waters, and unlock new adventures.

Which Course Is Right for You?

If you’re just getting started, the Open Water course will give you all the skills you need to dive safely and confidently. It’s the gateway to exploring reefs, wrecks, and dive sites around the world.

But if you’re already certified and want to dive deeper, master new skills, and take on more challenging sites, the Advanced PADI course is the way to go. It gives you the chance to experience deeper dives and specialised adventures that will take your scuba journey to the next level.
