PADI online dive courses and eLearning

PADI online dive courses and eLearning

PADI eLearning lets you complete the theory portion of a PADI course online, at your own pace, before in-water training at Frog Dive in Gladesville, Sydney. Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox and several specialty courses all have an online theory component you can finish at home or on a phone. The honest version: completing the eLearning does not make you a certified diver. PADI certification requires the in-water pool skills, the open-water dives and the instructor assessment that an eLearning code cannot deliver. The codes you buy on this page are the theory half; the in-water half happens with us at Gladesville.

How PADI eLearning works at Frog Dive

PADI eLearning runs in three steps.

Step one: buy the eLearning code for the course you are starting. Each course has its own code (Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, plus specialty courses). The code unlocks the online theory modules on PADI's platform.

Step two: complete the online theory at your own pace. The modules cover dive physics, dive physiology, equipment, dive planning and safety, with knowledge reviews and quizzes built in. Most students complete the Open Water theory in 8 to 14 hours spread over a couple of weeks.

Step three: book your in-water training at Frog Dive Gladesville. The in-water portion includes pool skills in our heated 28-degree pool, open-water dives in Sydney, and the instructor-led assessment that completes the certification. The full PADI in-person courses are listed at the PADI Open Water Diver page and the PADI Advanced Open Water page

Online versus in-water, in plain terms:

  • Online (eLearning): theory, reading, knowledge reviews, quizzes, exam preparation.
  • In-water (with a Frog Dive instructor): pool skills, gear assembly, mask clearing and recovery, buoyancy, ascent and descent, ocean dives, instructor assessment.

If you have never dived before and are deciding whether to commit to the full Open Water course, the Discover Scuba experience runs as a single pool session at Gladesville with no theory prerequisite. It is the lowest-commitment way to find out if scuba diving suits you.

Frog Dive has been a PADI training centre at Gladesville for decades, with small class sizes and the heated pool that makes the pool sessions comfortable year-round. Call (02) 9958 5699 or come into the Gladesville shop to book in your in-water training once your eLearning is underway.
